About Chinese Drywall
WARNING: If your home was built or renovated between 2004 and 2007, it may contain a defective and dangerous product known as Chinese Drywall.
WHY IT’S DANGEROUS:
Chinese Drywall emits toxins that may pose serious health threats to homeowners, including respiratory problems, headaches, and nose bleeds. The toxins also corrode metal within a home causing severe damage to electronic equipment, wires, pipes and air conditioning systems.
HOW BIG IS THIS PROBLEM?
This problem is enormous! It is estimated that over 550 million pounds of Chinese dry wall have been offloaded at US ports in the last few years. This is enough to build 60,000 average-sized homes. Unfortunately, Florida is one of the most heavily impacted States in the entire country.
SIGNS THAT A HOME MAY HAVE CHINESE DRYWALL:
• a rotten-egg or sulfur type smell in the home;
• problems with the home air conditioning unit, including repeated corrosion of the coils
• blackening of metals, such as coils, wiring or even silver jewelry
• failing of electronic components such as televisions or computers
• symptoms of severe allergies or respiratory problems that may disappear when you leave the home for an extended period of time

I think this complex has this drywall problem, I can’t breathe so well in side this apartment. The drywall looks really think and differnt from other type located and home depot. If i take a piece of this dry wall were can i get it tested. I have a 2 year old and a 1 month old. Were a little nervous about this, because this complex was built 3 an a half years ago. Also none of the maintance employees live here. One said that they did but i found out that they lied. I think since there ove 471 units…. That thats why the couldn’nt affoard to move us out etc.. So were can i get this tested and what should we do?
I also got one of those Chinese drywall test kits from ChineseDrywallTesterKit.com. At first I was skeptical, but when it came in the mail it turned out to be the real deal. It was straightforward to use and I tested all my walls in my home. It’s also reusable, so I let a friend of mine use it after I did so he didn’t have to buy another one. Good kit.
I live in S. Florida and have chinese drywall. My house was built in 2001. I’m hoping the government will do something soon!!! My eyes burn, I don’t sleep well, my joints hurt and all my copper wires are black. We have had to change many coils in our first and second air conditioners as well as the heating element.

I am President Ceo of Greentree Environmental svc. Inc. we have been working on a non destructive hand held xrf test for iron content in the chinese drywall. Our studies have found an increased amount of iron which we believe with a visual inspection and XRF testing of each sheet of drywall is an excellent inexpensive way to test these homes without cutting into walls, with onsite results. Please let me know your opinion of this method, we currently use the same technology for Lead based paint testing. John Casey President 219-406-8031

My condo was heavily damaged w Jeanne and Frances in 2005. I live in CA & here part time. When I come to FL I am sick. I have been going to an opthmamologist for a year or more. The problem w my eyes clears up when I go to CA.
The Sands A condo Association ripped out the dry wall after storms w/o informing me and hired their “own” people and products w/o any say from myself.
